Views of Chimborazo: A Month of Volcano Views

Chimborazo
the highest peak in Ecuador

I had the wonderful opportunity to stay in the beautiful village of Salasaka, Ecuador for the majority of the 2013 year. The volunteer house provided by Esuela Katitawa had a perfect view of Chimborazo, an inactive volcano and the highest mountain in Ecuador.

Indigenous tribes of Ecuador speak Kitchwa as their primarily language and Spanish second.

In Kitchwa
Chimborazo means
"the snow on the other side"

This apex has stood the test of time: amid ancient eruptions and the variable weather found in the ring of fire. Through explorers and hikers and mans destructive influence it remains, its power giving it place in much of the regions folklore and native religions.

Someone once told me that mountains were shy. They like to hide from the world under their blankets of clouds. We need to appreciate when they take a moment to show themselves to us.
In all their beauty.

Just a few days in its long lifespan.
                        Life will continue to cycle,
                                       Chimborazo will always stand tall.
